George Soraya is a Bahá’í who has served as a Continental Counselor for Asia and is currently serving as a Director of the Bahá’í International Development Organization.
Background[edit]
In his professional career Soraya is a municipal engineer working as the lead municipal engineer of the World Bank leading several development projects in Indonesia. He notably assisted with post-disaster housing rehabilitation in Java following a major tsunami in 2004 and an earthquake in 2006.[1]
In 1995 Soraya was appointed as a Continental Counselor for Asia by the Universal House of Justice,[2] and he was appointed for additional terms completing his service on the body in 2015.[3] In 2019 the Universal House of Justice established the Bahá’í International Development Organization to oversee the efforts of the Bahá’í community in the field of social and economic development and Soraya was appointed to the bodies inaugural board of directors for a five year term.[4]
