Dr. Farhad Shayani is a Persian Bahá’í who pioneered to Brazil and served as a Continental Counselor for the Americas.

Background[edit]

Shayani was born in Tehran, Iran, but he moved to Brazil in 1956.[1] He studied medicine at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul Faculty of Medicine graduating in 1971.[2] In January 1986 Shayani mediated a panel discussion on the topic The Promise of World Peace held in Porto Alegre, Brazil,[3] and in August that year he was the primary founder of the Society of Physicians for Peace in Brazil having been inspired by the Universal House of Justice's Promise of World Peace message.[4]

In 1993 the Universal House of Justice appointed Shayani as a Counselor for the Americas due to a vacancy left by appointments to the International Teaching Center,[5] and he was reappointed for a full five year term in 1995 completing his service in 2000.[6][7]

As of 2018 Shayani had attained many accomplishments in his medical career being a member of the Brazilian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology, and serving as a visiting Professor at Northwick Park in London, England, Heidelberg in Germany, Cochain and Lariboisier in Paris, France, and Jefferson Memorial in Florida, USA.[1]
