Fabienne Guillon was a Chilean Bahá’í who served as a National Spiritual Assembly member, but later supported Mason Remey's attempt to usurp authority over the Bahá’í community and was named a Covenant-breaker.

Background[edit]

Guillon had become a Bahá’í as of the early 1950's and in 1952 she donated property she owned near the lake Loncoche to the National Spiritual Assembly of South America to serve as a Temple site.[1] She was elected to the National Spiritual Assembly herself at Ridvan 1953,[2] and later in the year she visited Bahá’í communities across Europe and Asia and represented the South American Assembly at the Intercontinental Teaching Conference in New Delhi, India.[3]

In 1957 the South American National Spiritual Assembly split into two bodies and Guillon was elected to the newly formed National Spiritual Assembly of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay,[4] and in 1961 she was elected an inaugural member of the independent National Spiritual Assembly of Chile.[5]

When Shoghi Effendi passed in 1957 the Hands of the Cause signed a statement that no successor to the Guardianship had been appointed, however despite signing the statement Mason Remey claimed to be the second Guardian of the Bahá’í Faith in 1960. His claims were rejected by the majority of the Bahá’í community with the notable exception of several members of the National Spiritual Assembly of France and in 1962 Bernardo Fillon of the French National Assembly moved to Chile to promote Remey. Guillon accepted Remey's claims and was expelled from the Faith as a Covenant-breaker as were her daughter and son-in-law.[6]
