Fírúz Purdil

Fírúz Purdil (February 10, 1944 - October 30, 1984) was a Persian Bahá’í who was martyred in Iran.
Biography[edit]
Purdil was born into a Bahá’í family in Mashhad in 1944. After completing high school he moved to Tehran where he completed a degree in engineering at Tehran Polytechnic, and he then completed his military service before securing a job with the National Oil Company. He later resigned and began working for an engineering firm in Mashhad associated with the Communications Department.[1]
In 1979 Purdil was elected to the Local Spiritual Assembly of Mashhad and due to the Iranian Revolution he was dismissed from his engineering firm job for being a Bahá’í around the same time. On August 32, 1983, he was arrested and imprisoned until being executed by hanging on October 30, 1984. His family was informed of his passing three days afterward. His body was buried in accordance with Bahá’í law with Revolutionary Guards supervising the burial with only a small group of Bahá’ís being permitted to undertake the burial itself to ensure his burial location was not known.[1]
