Estanislao Alvarez was a Bahá’í who served on the National Spiritual Assembly of Bolivia.
Background[edit]
Alvarez was serving on a Regional Teaching Committee in Bolivia in 1956 and that year he was invited, alongside Elton Smith, to proclaim the Faith in the indigenous village Vilakollo by newly declared indigenous Bahá’ís Andrés and Carmelo Jachakollo.[1] As of 1958 he was serving as a member of Bolivia's National Indian Committee,[2] in 1959 he became Chairman of the Committee, and in April that year he visited the rural indigenous village Jankohuyo with Athos Costas to help the local Bahá’í community establish a Local Spiritual Assembly.[3]
In April 1960 Alvarez was elected to the National Spiritual Assembly of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay,[4] and in 1961 he was elected to the first independent National Spiritual Assembly of Bolivia.[5] As of 1966 he was serving as the Chairman of the National Assembly.[6] At some point he was declared a Covenant-breaker ending his association with the Bahá’í community.[7]
