Elsa de Koninck is a Belgian Bahá’í who served on the inaugural National Spiritual Assembly of the Benelux Countries and the inaugural National Spiritual Assembly of Belgium.

Background[edit]

In 1957 Koninck was elected to the National Spiritual Assembly of the Benelux Countries which was formed to administrate the Bahá’í communities of Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg,[1] and she was re-elected in 1958.[2] In 1959 she was elected to the first Local Spiritual Assembly of Antwerp in Belgium and was not re-elected to the Benelux National Spiritual Assembly.[3][4]

In 1962 Koninck was elected to the first National Spiritual Assembly of Belgium when it was established,[5] and in 1963 she attended the First International Convention in Haifa casting a vote in the establishment of the Universal House of Justice as a member of the Belgian National Assembly.[6] In 1963 she also accompanied fellow Belgian Lea Nys on a pilgrimage to Iran visiting the Bahá’í Holy places in Tihran, Isfahan, and Shiraz.[7]

In 1972 Koninck helped man a Bahá’í booth at an International Book Fair in Brussels which was visited by King Baudouin of Belgium.[8]
