Diet has a number of related meanings, all connected with food intake, influences on food intake and decisions about food intake. Both Bahá'u'lláh and 'Abdu'l-Bahá made statements and recommendations about diet, which tend to appear in compilations on "Health and Healing". 'Abdu'l-Bahá has made references to the combinations of different types of food, to the simplicity of the food, and to the roles of meat, fruit and grains.
Meat[edit]
Abdu'l-Bahá states clearly that the "canine" teeth in a human being are actually for breaking open nuts and similar hard items, and not for eating meat. All of a human's other teeth are clearly for processing vegetable food. He states that in the future, meat will gradually no longer be eaten. However, there has never been a prohibition on the eating of animals, and Abdu'l-Bahá recommends the eating of meat for persons of a "weak constitution".
Fruit and grains[edit]
'Abdu'l-Bahá states that "the food of the future will be fruit and grains".[1] Victoria Leith has written a book on this subject, entitled "I'll have the Fruit and Grains please".
