History[edit]
In 1938 the Urbana Bahá’í community began to focus on teaching the Faith in Danville and Bahá’í meetings to teach the Faith began to be held in the city.[1][2] In 1940 the Urbana Assembly sponsored a teaching campaign in Danville which consisted of nineteen talks which resulted in two study groups forming,[3] and by 1941 a formal Bahá’í Group had been established.[4] In 1943 Danville had a Local Spiritual Assembly.[5]
In 1945 five people attending a study class on the Faith declared,[6] and in 1946 Farhang Javid visited the community and helped facilitate a study of the Dawn-Breakers.[7] In 1948 the Danville community sponsored a Fellowship Meeting to foster stronger ties between the Bahá’ís of Danville and the Bahá’ís of Urbana.[8]
The Danville Bahá’ís held an event to commemorate World Religion Day in 1952 which was attended by fifty people.[9] By 1955 the Danville Assembly had lapsed and restoring the Assembly was noted as a goal of the U.S. Bahá’í community.[10]
In 1964 the Danville Bahá’í community participated in Danville's Annual Interfaith Tea for the first time, [11] and in 1967 a Bahá’í was invited to deliver a class in a series on history of religion at a junior college in Danville.[12] Also in 1967 Salvatore Pelle delivered a talk in Danville resulting in increased publicity of the Faith in the city.[13]
During 1986 a teaching project to promote the Faith was ongoing in Danville.[14]
