Coverage of the Bahá’í Faith at NCCU Campus Echo
The Campus Echo of NCCU has been digitized for 28 out of the 42 years of it's publication at DigitalNC.org as of November 2016.[1] It mentions the Bahá'í some 6 times across those years (so, roughly 9 times would show up extending to all years as an approximation.(-) Two instances appear in 1961, one each in 1962, 1964, and 1966.
1961[edit]
The first mention of the Faith, in January, in The Campus Echo occurs because of a letter to the editor by Jean Norris (later Jean Scales).[2] In it Norris observes the miraculous for the Christian narrative for Jesus Christ from Baha'i Writings, while observing the breadth of Manifestations sent by God.
The second mention of the Faith is an article covering the contribution by Allan L. Ward of some Bahá'í books to the campus library who was present for the "religious emphasis week" on campus in April.[3] The volumes are: Hidden Words, Seven Valleys, Baha'i World Faith, Baha'i World vol 3, All things made new, Great themes of life, Promise of all ages, and Release the sun.
1962[edit]
The 1962 mention is when Allan L. Ward returned to campus for the "religious emphasis week" and spoke to the freshmen assembly in March.[4]
1964[edit]
The 1964 mention is when Duke researcher came to the second meeting of the NCCU Baha'i club that year.[5] It also notes the next meeting with be with a talk by a NCCU and electing officers. The article continues onto page 4[6] reviewing the first meeting which included an introductory talk about the religion by William Allison of American Friends Service Committee of High Point, NC. There was broad commentary about future meetings and a brief synopsis of the religion.
1966[edit]
In March the Baha'i Club of A. and T College of Greensboro, (North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University,) Baha'i Club presented a panel at NCCU sponsored by the NCCU Baha'i Club.[7] It names Evander M. Gilmer,(president of that year's club)[8] Charles Bullock ( junior that year)[9] and Charmion Gordon from A&T coming with faculty member Fereydoun Jalali. The club is pictured in that year's Ayantee yearbook of A&T[8] - alas the next year only Jalali[10] and Bullock[11] were on campus at A&T.)
