Burháni’d-Dín Afshín is a Bahá’í who helped develop the Bahá’í community of India and served as a Continental Counselor for Asia.
Background[edit]
Afshín was appointed as a Continental Counselor for South Central Asia in 1976 when the Universal House of Justice raised the number of Counselors.[1] In May 1977 he spoke at the first Bahá’í Teaching Conference for the Himalayas in Gangtok in the state Sikkim of India,[2] and in September 1978 he visited Africa to attend the National Teaching Conference of Tanzania at the request of the Universal House of Justice.[3] In December 1979 he spoke at a national teaching conference for Pakistan in Hyderabad.[4]
In 1980 the Universal House of Justice merged the Continental Boards in Asia into one body and introduced five year terms to the body and Afshín was appointed for a five year term.[5] In March and April 1982 he helped the National Youth Committee of India conceptualize the Panchgani Academy,[6] and in June that year he participated in a conference held to inaugurate it.[7] In 1985 he was appointed for a second five year term as Counselor,[8] and he represented India as a keynote speaker at an international Asian Bahá’í Youth Conference in New Delhi.[9] In December 1986 he spoke at the inauguration of the House of Worship in New Delhi.[10]
In 1990 Afshín was appointed for another five year term as Counselor,[11] and for a final five year term in 1995.[12]
