Dr. Buzurgmihr "Bozorg" Hemmati (August 5, 1931 - June 30, 1972) was a Persian Bahá’í who served on the National Spiritual Assembly of Germany.
Biography[edit]
Hemmati was born into a Bahá’í family in Iran in 1931 and raised near Kirman. In the late 1950's he moved to Germany to study medicine settling in Bonn. He later pioneered to Tubingen where he helped establish a Local Spiritual Assembly while continuing his studies.[1]
After graduating Hemmati became successful in medicine and also continued to serve the Bahá’í community particularly through counselling youth. As of 1961 he had been elected to the National Spiritual Assembly of Germany.[2] He went on pilgrimage in the early 1970's while suffering a serious illness and was hospitalized after returning to Germany passing away in June, 1972.[3]
The Universal House of Justice conveyed the following message after his passing:
DEEPLY GRIEVED PASSING VALIANT SERVANT BAHAULLAH BOZORG HIMMATI REQUEST HOLD MEMORIAL SERVICE MASHRIQULADHKAR BEFITTING HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICES PROMOTION FAITH GERMANY URGE BELIEVERS THROUGHOUT THAT LAND EMULATE HIS DEVOTED SPIRIT PIONEERING PRAYING HOLY SHRINES COMFORT STRENGTH BEREAVED FAMILY PROGRESS HIS SOUL ABHA KINGDOM FULFILMENT HIS HIGHEST HOPES VICTORY CAUSE HIS ADOPTED HOMELAND.[3]
