Behnam Pashaie

Behnam Pashaie (1940 - November, 1988) was a Persian Bahá’í who was martyred in Iran.

Biography[edit]

Pashaie was born in Tehran in 1940. His father was the only member of Pashaie's extended family who was a Bahá’í. In his youth he left high school after completing grade 11 and began working for the Ministry of Health initially in Tehran then being transferred to Semnan where he was elected to the Local Spiritual Assembly.[1]

In 1978 Pashaie's home in Semnan was burnt down and he moved to Sangsar where he was arrested after one month, and he was then dismissed from the Ministry of Health for being a Bahá’í when the Iranian Revolution began in 1979. On December 16, 1983, he was arrested and imprisoned in Semnan being kept in solitary confinement for the majority of his time in the prison. In 1984 he was transferred to Evin prison where he was severely tortured and his family were denied permission to visit him.[1]

In December 1988 the authorities informed his family that he had been executed and documentation suggested he was executed at some point during November that year. His body was not returned to his family for burial.[1]
