Baltimore is a U.S. city in the state of Maryland. It is on the coast and is a notable seaport.
History[edit]
It is likely that the first Bahá'í teaching trip to Baltimore was made by Isabella D. Brittingham in 1900. In February 1902 Nathan Ward Fitzgerald and Mírzá Abu'l-Fadl presented the Faith to around one hundred people at a public meeting in Baltimore. The 'Bahá’í Assembly of Baltimore' (a precursor to a Local Spiritual Assembly) was formed in 1909.
In 1912 ‘Abdu’l-Bahá briefly visited Baltimore during his tour of the USA. He arrived in the city on November 11 at Camden Station having caught a train, and was accompanied by his entourage. He gave some press interviews at the Hotel Rennert shortly after arriving, then spoke at First Independent Christ's Church, a Unitarian church. He then visited the home of Howard Struven for a luncheon attended by several Bahá’ís before departing for New York City on the 3 o'clock train from Camden station.
The Local Spiritual Assembly of Baltimore was incorporated on August 3, 1945.[1]
