Bahman ‘Átifí

Bahman ‘Átifí (August 31, 1947 - September 11, 1981) was a Persian Bahá’í who was martyred in Iran.
Biography[edit]
‘Átifí was born into a Bahá’í family in Afus, Isfahan Province. He completed elementary school then began working on a farm with his older brother ‘Izzat. He was also an active member of the Bahá’í community and was elected to the Local Spiritual Assembly.[1]
On June 26, 1981, it was announced that a Judge had ruled that all Bahá’ís were to be taken to the Mosque of Afus by Revolutionary Guards and Bahman and his brother ‘Izzat were taken to the mosque that day. They were asked to recant their Faith but refused and were then arrested and taken to a prison in Daran. They were executed by firing squad alongside three fellow Bahá’ís on September 11, 1981.[1] The ‘Átifí's bodies were returned to Afus and buried in the Bahá’í cemetery in the presence of their families however Revolutionary Guards oversaw the burial and forbade the use of coffins or the observance of Bahá’í burial laws.[2]
