Babak Talebi

Babak Talebi (December 11, 1969 - September 2, 1986) was a Persian Bahá’í who was martyred in Iran.
Biography[edit]
Talebi was born into a Bahá’í family in Tehran in 1969 however in his youth his family moved to Karaj where they settled in the suburb Said-Abad. His father was imprisoned for his beliefs in the wake of the Iranian Revolution being imprisoned for three months in 1981.[1]
In 1985 Talebi's father passed due to a heart attack and he left school in order to join the workforce to support his family financially. In early 1986 he moved to Shiraz where he worked for a relative. In June that year he visited family in Tehran and on September 2 they visited Karaj for a family reunion in the suburb of Zarnan. He rode his bicycle to Said-Abad and his family became concerned when he did not return.[1]
Talebi's body was found outside Karaj in the village of Vardavard with a rope around his neck and evidence that he had been severely beaten. A coroner ruled that the cause of death was strangulation but he stated that no autopsy could be conducted. His mother and relatives were arrested and charged with his murder but released after some time. He was buried by his family.[1]
