Austria-Hungary was a constitutional monarchy in Central Europe between 1867 and 1918. It was a military and diplomatic alliance with two sovereign states and a single monarch titled Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary. It was formed with the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867. It was dissolved when Hungary terminated the union with Austria at the end of World War I.[1]

History[edit]

Bahá’u’lláh wrote to Francis-Joseph the Emperor of Austria-Hungary. Bahá’u’lláh reproved the sovereign for visiting Jerusalem and failing to inquire of Bahá’u’lláh. He goes on the ask that he open his eyes and see the light. His life was filled with tragedies. His brother, Maximilian, was killed in Mexico; the Empress was assisinated; the Crown Prince Rudolph died by suicide; Archduke Francis Ferdinand and his wife were murdered in Sarajevo; and his empire disintegrated.[2]
