Alamogordo is a city in the U.S. state of New Mexico.
History[edit]
As of 1944 there was an isolated Bahá’í living in Alamogordo.[1]
By 1969 there was an organized Bahá’í group in the town and in December 1969 the group held a successful youth conference in collaboration with the Bahá’í community of the Mescalero Indian Reservation attended by twenty-five,[2] which contributed to the Local Spiritual Assembly of Alamogordo being established in 1970.[3]
In June 1970 Ruth Moffett and the New Mexico State Goals Committee arranged a four day deepening session at the Mescalero Indian Reservation which included firesides to assist the new Assembly and reach out to the Apache population. Auxiliary Board member Chester Kahn attended the conference.[4] In 1980 the Alamogordo Bahá’í community experienced increased success in teaching with fireside attendance increasing.[5][6]
In 2009 the Bahá’í community of Alamogordo held a prayer vigil for the Bahá’ís suffering persecution in Iran.[7]
