Ismá‘ílí was born in the village Faghih Hasanan which is near Bushihr in the Iranian province of Fars. He owned a warehouse in the village and was an active member of its Bahá’í community serving on the Local Spiritual Assembly.[1]
On October 8, 1978, a mob attacked the homes of Bahá’ís in the village and Ismá‘ílí's home and warehouse were both looted and set on fire and he was instructed to leave the village. He was reluctant to move however his children convinced him to depart and he spent a few months living in Khorramshahr and Borazjan.[1]
After a few months Ismá‘ílí returned to Faghih Hasanan and his family lost contact with him. His son-in-law visited the village to investigate his whereabouts and it was reported that the had been taken captive for a short time and then murdered and dismembered however the family was never able to locate his remains.[1]
