‘Alí Mutahharí

‘Alí Mutahharí (1936 - September 8, 1980) was a Persian Bahá’í who was martyred in Iran.

Biography[edit]

Mutahharí was born into a Muslim Bahá’í family in Kirman in 1936 and both of his parents became Bahá’ís when he was a child. The family pioneered to the village of Anar to teach the Faith but experienced intense persecution and ultimately moved to the city of Yazd where Mutahharí began working in a carpet repair shop.[1]

Mutahharí was elected to the Local Spiritual Assembly of Yazd in the late 1970's and on June 18, 1980, he was arrested at his home along with the other members of the Assembly and imprisoned in a military prison. On September 8, 1980, he was executed alongside several other prominent Bahá’ís of Yazd.[1]
