‘Abbás Ídilkhání

‘Abbás Ídilkhání (1931 - August 1, 1985) was a Persian Bahá’í who passed while imprisoned for his beliefs.
Background[edit]
Ídilkhání was born in Zanjan in 1931. His father, Asadu’lláh, was a Bahá’í and his mother was a Muslim. Ídilkhání was raised in Tehran and only completed primary school but in his youth he trained to be a blacksmith and later became a qualified electrical technician specializing in installing and reparing air-conditioning units.[1]
In 1961 Ídilkhání married Parvin Fana'iyan and they had a son and a daughter. They actively taught the Faith holding Bahá’í gatherings in their home and a few years after their marriage they pioneered from Tehran to Zanjan where they built a building to serve as a home and business. Their neighbours initially thought they were constructing a Bahá’í Centre and were hostile towards them but the Ídilkhání's gradually befriended them and became respected in Zanjan.[2]
On April 23, 1981, Ídilkhání was arrested in the wake of the Iranian Revolution and held in Zanjan police prison until 1985 when he was transferred to a militia prison in southern Zanjan and then Evin prison in Tehran in April, 1985.[3] On August 4, 1985, his wife was summoned to Tehran by the authorities to meet with her husband however after arriving she was refused permission to see him but advised to remain in Tehran. On August 19 she was informed that he had passed in prison through a phone call. The authorities denied requests from his family for his remains and belongings to be returned to them. He was likely buried in a Muslim cemetery by the authorities with burial records showing that he had passed on August 1, 1985.[3]
