Írán Rahímpúr

Írán Rahímpúr (July, 1938 - May 12, 1982) was a Persian Bahá’í who was martyred in Iran.

Biography[edit]

Rahímpúr was born Írán Khormaie into a Muslim family in Tehran in 1938. She studied at school until completing Grade 9 then began working for the Telegraph and Telephone Company in Tehran. She became a Bahá’í in 1976 and pioneered to Andimesh in Khuzestan Province the following year. In 1979 she married a man who had become a Bahá’í after being introduced to the religion by her.[1]

In December 1980 Rahímpúr and her husband were arrested and she was pregnant at the time. She was imprisoned in Defzul and as of April 1981 she had given birth with both she and her new born son being returned to prison from the hospital. On May 12, 1982, she was executed by firing squad. Her body was not returned to her family for burial and her child were not allowed any contact with her child who had been put in the custody of a woman whose child had been killed in the Revolution.[1]
