Wilmette, Illinois is the township north of Chicago which hosts the Mashriqu'l-Adhkar for North America. Leaving Chicago, travelling north along the western shore of Lake Michigan, the visitor passes through Evanston, home of the World Council of Churches and some Bahá'í offices, and into Wilmette. It was here that 'Abdu'l-Bahá laid the cornerstone of the House of Worship. Wilmette was also the site of the Home for the Aged which was the first dependency of the Mashriqu'l-Adhkar, of the United States Bahá'í National Center and of the Bahá'í Publishing Trust.
