Bahá’í Home for the Aged

The Bahá’í Home for the Aged was a dependency of the Wilmette House of Worship in Illinois.
History[edit]
Erecting a dependency of the Wilmette Temple was a goal set for the Ten Year Crusade by Shoghi Effendi in 1953.[1] As of May 1957 an aged care facility had been selected as the dependency to be constructed with approved plans.[2]
Construction was completed and the facility was dedicated by Horace Holley in 1958. It opened for business on February 1, 1959,[3] providing care with staff consisting of administrators, kitchen staff, and a nurse, with most residents being from the wider community and only one or two Bahá’í residents at a time. In the 1990's it fell behind modern standards and it closed business in 2001 with the building continuing to be used for events by the Wilmette Bahá’í community.
